Lift & Ride | Arlberg | 11 - 15 Jan 2012>> Girls Only!

Program >> Girls Only!
We will ride the flanks of the Arlberg. Lead by a guide/instructor, we'll ski variants in and around the skiing area, making several special descents. This program is all about adapting to the terrain and choosing your lines. The specifics of this program will depend on the skill level of our group and the weather and snow conditions.

During the first day, we'll examine and coach your style and techniques. After this, we aim to put you in challenging situations that help you push your limits. If necessary, we can visit the Avalanche Training Center for safety technique training.

Accommodation
We'll be staying in a hotel in St. Jacob am Arlberg and includes breakfast and dinner . There are spacious double bedrooms with a bathroom and toilet. Wireless internet is available, you can park at the door and the ski bus stop is nearby.

Location
Arlberg has been on the map for off-piste skiing tours for over a century and every year it attracts freeriders and terrain skiers from all over the world. Depending on weather and snow conditions, we'll ski in and outsite the boundry. Using St. Anton as our base of operations, we'll look for nice lines around St. Christoph, Albona, Sonnenkopf, Zurs and Lech.

Lunch and Dinner
We'll have lunch during an afternoon break at a restaurant or eatery. We'll have dinner together in the hotel (price included).

Weather and Snow
The Arlberg mountain range lies between Vorarlberg and Tirol and is known as a true Schneeloch (snow hole). A good base of snow outside the piste is guaranteed and the chance of a fresh dump is always there.

Instructors and Guides
During this program, you'll be assisted by certified and experienced instructors and guides. They have all been trained at the highest level as Staatliche Skilehrer or Staatliche Skiführer. Spending on average 150 days a year on the snow as ski and snowboard instructors or guides, they know exactly what modern skiing's about. The instructors and guides are all Dutch.

Skill Level
We'll be skiing in the backcountry, which can be physically taxing for some. We require that participants are fit and in good health. Furthermore, basic techniques and some off-piste experience are a must. Check here your Freeride Passport and compare it to the Freeride Passport for this program.

If you have any questions regarding your skill level or need advice on how to prepare yourself for a Ski-Madness descent, please contact us.

Number of Participants
There is room for only 6 to 10 participants per group. We limit the maximum group size to guard your safety and to make sure we can give each of you as much personal attention as possible. We try to place participants in groups matching their level of skill.

Equipment
Long and wide would be the way to go. So leave your toothpicks at home. For beginning freeriders, body length, 90mm underfoot skis would be a good start. A width over 110mm underfoot has its advantages but can cause trouble at the lower parts of descents. Freeride skis offer stability and float in the powder. Fitting bindings are the finishing touch. This makes freeride skis and boards the perfect tools to draw a few nice lines in the snow.

If you have questions regarding your equipment or need advice on the purchase of equipment, please contact us.

Safety
For your safety and our own, we use safety gear during all our activities. We have backpacks including beacon, shovel and probe available for every participant. In case of an avalanche, this equipment can save your life and enable you to help others in need. These backpacks are included in the price. Furthermore, bringing your own first aid kit is advised and wearing a helmet is mandatory.

Ski-Madness has a large number of complete Ortovox backpacks that include a shovel, a probe, and an avalanche transceiver. Free to use.

Insurance
Travel insurance with European or global coverage is mandatory for all our programs outside the Netherlands. Your policy should cover the risks that come with skiing on unmarked slopes because rescue operations and emergency medical transportation are costly in these areas.

We insure all participants with Mondial Assistance, who offer excellent coverage.

If you already have travel insurance then make sure your policy adequately covers mountaineering risks. This is for your own safety. Cancellation insurance is also advised
